God Bless our Holy Father

"The Church… intends to continue to raise her voice in defense of mankind, even when policies of States and the majority of public opinion moves in the opposite direction. Truth, indeed, draws strength from itself and not from the amount of consent it arouses." —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Vatican, March 20, 2006

I was just thinking about this quote during the past few days and considering posting it in my blog sidebar!

Nice photo of the Holy Father, who speaks the TRUTH ALWAYS!! Yet many wish to follow their own idea of what truth is, and many are being decieved by liberal ideas presented as a "Good." We all need to pray for our world and for an ever greater faith in Our Lord. As Ste. Therese once said, "Lord may I see the Truth and let nothing cause me to be decieved." A blessed evening to all! Thank you for your website that is inspiring food for thought during these tubulent times we find ourselves in. John K.

Am I missing something here? The things that Benedict XVI says seem very, very liberal to me.

Irene, I have no idea what you mean. The Holy Father is saying the Church will continue to speak the truth about despite all opposition. I'm not getting how this is liberal.

I did not say that speaking the truth is liberal (though certainly a case could be made for that).

My reference was to Joseph_63's comment "...many are being deceived by liberal ideas presented as a 'Good.'" The implication is that liberal ideas are somehow automatically "bad". By further implication then, our Holy Father's expositions of "truth" somehow must not be "liberal".

In point of fact, I think a careful observer would find that Benedict XVI's
"truth's" (as contained in his encyclicals, homilies, and other pronouncements) are the most liberal body of papal sayings since at least Leo XIII -- more liberal than John XXIII even.

Labelling things "liberal" and "conservative" is to drag them into the realm of politics rather than Catholicism. It is acknowledging mammon as God, and not Jesus. And it always pushes my buttons.

Before we toss about such labels, we need to remember that the words of Jesus were/are radical in the extreme. He paid dearly for that, to your and my everlasting benefit.
