Defend yourself against the demonic

"Try this: The next time you face a temptation, remind yourself that you're cooperating with the malevolent will of a highly developed insect that hates you yet wants to be with you forever. You'll find your old reliable sins lose a little of their allure."

Go here to read an excellent article by Tom Hoopes about the demonic - those who have experience direct and open assault from the minions of evil and how to combat your spiritual enemies.

Great Article

Terry over at Abbey Roads 2 as always is hitting nails on the head in a recent post on the fear of the Lord.

"According to some notions developed from post-Vatican II theology, servile fear of God is often considered a negative, imperfect expression of devotion to be avoided. Yet servile fear is typically an initial, fundamental disposition in the spirituality of the pre-convert and newly converted soul. The fear of hell is not a bad thing, after all, it is one of the components normally expressed in a good act of contrition."

The entire post deserves a thorough read.

The problem of truth and human fellowship - Great Article

Wresting with the Truth - Jacob Wrestling with the Angel

"The problem of truth and human fellowship is important for democratic societies; it seems to me to be particularly important for this country [United States], where men and women coming from a great diversity of national stocks and religious or philosophical creeds have to live together. If each one of them endeavored to impose his own convictions and the truth in which he believes on all his co-citizens, would not living together become impossible? That is obviously right. Well, it is easy, too easy, to go a step further, and to ask: if each one sticks to his own convictions, will not each one endeavor to impose his own convictions on all others? So that, as a result, living together will become impossible if any citizen whatever sticks to his own convictions and believes in a given truth? Thus it is not unusual to meet people who think that not to believe in any truth, or not to adhere firmly to any assertion as unshakeably true in itself, is a primary condition required of democratic citizens in order to be tolerant of one another. May I say that these people are in fact the most intolerant people, for if perchance they were to believe in something as unshakeably true, they would feel compelled, by the same stroke, to impose by force and coercion their own belief on their co-citizens..."

Great Article

Go here for a great article on how to assist the holy souls in purgatory as the month of the holy souls, November, quickly approaches. Remember, praying for our departed brethren is a duty, not just another "nice devotion". This is not a difficult thing to do! Even if you simply include them generally in your prayer intentions, offer the first three Hail Mary's of your Rosary for them - this suffices! Sure, you can do many large things for them, but even small offerings of prayer, small sacrifices and mortifications offered with love are so very helpful!

Best Hissy Fit - Ever

This is shamelessly lifted from The Crescat. Simply the best spiritual "hissy fit" I've ever seen and one I could have spoken myself. I've also included the very wise response from the combox. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

Statement: "My soul cries out for this, [see picture] a quiet refuge, a sense of the holy and the sacred, a place where I can go and let me soul rest. The environment does matter, damn you. It is not a reflection of my spiritual immaturity that I do not find modern ugly bare and empty churches sources of spiritual fulfillment. Nothing is lacking in me. The empty church is what is lacking. My soul hungers for the sacred. It is starving. Who would give their child a stone when they ask for bread?"
~Carolina Cannonball

Response: "Only those who consider themselves more important than God would give a child a stone when they asked for bread. They put the ugliness there specifically to keep your eyes off of God, lest you focus on Him and not them. Just as they hide the tabernacle (and Him) away so that you won't be distracted from them. They figure that if they give you stones long enough, you'll either forget that the bread exists, or just give up and quit longing for the bread. Then they'll have you. But, don't let them win. Ever."
-Tom S.

I plan to remember this one. Amen+

Great Article on La Salette

Photo Credit to Spirit Daily. This image is striking and quite moving. This is an actual photo of a statue of Our Lady of La Salette taken in 1999 while her shrine in Attelboro, Massachusetts burned behind her. You can see the crown of flowers which adorn our Lady's head as she looks up to heaven, crying for her children. This is a rather famous statue and depiction of the Blessed Virgin Mary as she appeared to the seers, Melanie and Maximin, in La Salette, near Corps, France in the early 1846. She appeared in the apparition as Our Lady of Sorrows.

I strongly recommend reading the article about Our Lady of La Salette available here.

This apparition along with its message is approved as authentic and for propagation for the faithful by the Holy Catholic Church.

Our Lady of La Salette, Our Lady of Tears, Pray for us. Amen+
